Freedom's Song

by Steve Hoogerwerf; Guitar by Jonathan Hopf

The title track of the album was inspired by the sad and tragic story of 22-year-old Marine Cpl
Jeffrey Lawrence, slain in Iraq on July 6th 2004, and his pregnant wife Celeste, who gave birth to
their first child on July 10th 2004. In honor of his sacrifice and to honor the Marine Corps,
Celeste named their little girl Cadence Freedom.

Moved by the story, Steve wrote this song and sent the lyrics to Bobby Rich and Brad Behan
of Tucson's 94.9MIXfm to help get this important message out. He and Jonathan Hopf were
invited to and played this song live on the Bobby&Brad Show on Friday July 23rd. Unbeknownst
to them the song was heard by the widow, who later called the radio show. Additionally a local
TV reporter heard the song on the radio and called to have Steve and Jonathan come to the
TV studio to be interviewed and to perform Freedom's Song.

The Freedom's Song is in stock and available to purchase in the Whiskey Bards online store.
