Optimistic Pirate

lyrics & melody by Tonis
   4 April 2005

Oh, splash go the waters though my ears hear it not
As I strike the waves with a splash and a splot
Inspecting the planks ‘neath the hull of the ship
Clearing barnacles away as under I slip

<chorus>
He’s an optimistic pirate, my glass is half full
He’s an optimistic pirate, and my life’s never dull
He’s not like the others, pessimistic I’m not
He’s an optimistic pirate, and I love this black spot

With a rope tied to feet and another to hands
Slipping through the water my task it ain’t bland
The splinters I’ve sanded off with my nose
And my skins taken on the shade of a rose

<chorus>

They say that each boat is trailed by some sharks
Looking for some free food ‘neath the waters dark
There’s not just a few, it’s more like a school
With each scrape of my skin the way they move is so cool

<chorus>

Well, I get to breathe as my head breaks the plane
Then I’m under the waters as my mates pull again
The fun it all started when the rum we all drank
They say when we’re done, I get to walk the plank

Ba-doop-bop-deee-ba-bado-wop
Ba-dop-ba-ba-dop-baaaa…bop, bop, baa

They’re hauling away as I go under the keel
Sure as I bounce along a little pain I may feel
Some think it’s a bad thing to keel haul and bob
Me…I prefer to think of it as a temporary job (spoken)

<chorus> x2

“Hey, guys, can we do this again next week?”…burble, burble, burble…
