Jonathan Hopf Jonathan Hopf started his life in music at the age of 7 in a singing group known as the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus. He also performed in productions of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas as well as musicals such as Bye-Bye Birdie, Grease, and Brigadoon. Jonathan also performed for 3 years as the vocalist in an eclectic rock band known as Died Orange. This is also where he initially took up playing guitar. In 1984 Jonathan joined a medieval recreation club known as the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) where he immediately took to putting on a suit of armor and fighting in a large war known then as Estrella Mountain War I (as of this writing Estrella is now to XXII). Approximately 2-3 years into Jonathans fighting career, he pulled out a guitar and lubed up his vocal chords and, on a dark and stormy night (there was no storm - but that is such an ominously cool phrase) Jonathan performed his first 4-song concert in front of 2 duchesses, a duke, and a really cool knight. He forgot half the words but was really well received and thus, his performing life in the SCA began. Since that time Jonathan has performed at many renaissance festivals and SCA wars around the entire United States and has written over 70 pieces of music. He has produced 4 CDs and 12 tapes. Jonathan prides himself on being a "bard for the people." Which means, while he knows and sings some period music, he has a vast collection of fun to sing and listen to "not necessarily medieval" songs. And in the Year of our Lord 2005, Estrella war, Yonatan was elevated to the title of Master of the Laurel in the kingdom of Atenveldt in the Society for Creative Anachronism. In 1996 Jonathan married his wife Laura (Ilora von Neunhoff) and encouraged her to share her beautiful voice with the world. Together they sing beautiful duets and Laura sings fantastic solo pieces. They have an awesome son named Wesley and a wonderful daughter Genevieve. |
